Description

The Lotus Pichwai Saree

Pichwai or Pichvai is a beautiful style of painting originating from the exotic land of Rajasthan India. It’s a 400-year-old art from the temple town of Nathdwara near Udaipur. Pichwai paintings are created on fabric and have been used as backdrops in temples depicting Lord Krsna’s leela’s. Pichwai means ‘A textile backdrop’. With Radhey Krsna come the Gopis, Cows, and the lush greenery with beautiful Lotuses that are dear to Lord Krsna. Here is a beautiful saree’ The Lotus Pichwai Sari’.

Traditional Artists use Natural colors and pure gold as paints for the Pichwai’s. They are made by the members of Pushti Marg (a sect of Vaishnavites), They focus their worship on the ten incarnations of Vishnu, which include Rama and Krishna. This kind of Hinduism is called Vaishnavism.

The hand-painted sarees are designed and painted by the founder of Sutrakaar, Manju M Hinduja, an Artist and a Designer.  The fabric here is a blend of linen & tussar. The colors used are pigments colors. The hand-painted sarees can be customized and made to order. Our Artist has reservations about painting Gods figures on garments/ sarees, please do make a note before sending in your requirement.
