West Bengal was known for its coarser counts pre Independence and post shifted to finer counts.The coarser and fine counts along with silk share a common heritage of symbolic layouts and motifs.
One can find the beautiful Laal Paar in cottons, and variety of silks. The laal Paar symbolises the Sindoor. The alta, sacred dye that is smeared by women along the edges of their feet. Red the color of sacrifice and passion.
